Shayla’s Guest of the Month: Lexi Blake

Welcome back, everyone! This month, I’m interviewing my close friend, partner in crime, and co-author of The Perfect Gentlemen and Masters of Mènage series – Lexi Blake! Lexi and I have been friends for years and I can’t think of anyone I’d rather movie-binge, shop and create general havoc with than her. Lexi’s newest book, Nobody Does it Better, from her Masters and Mercenaries series is available now.

Name a movie you’ve seen at least five times and why it’s a favorite.

Lexi: Galaxy Quest. I watch this movie at least once a year. What can I say? I’m a total dweeb and this movie does it for me on every level. I love the “meta” aspect and yes, I would love to find out Star Trek/Supernatural/X-Files, etc was real. On a side note, the captain of the NSEA Protector is named Taggart. And that’s not a coincidence. That’s how much I love it. Never give up. Never surrender.

Where is your bucket-list vacation?

Lexi: I want to see the aurora borealis. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. There’s this place in Sweden where you can stay in nice cabins and wait for the show. I’m fascinated with that part of the world probably because I live in Texas and we have so little cold. I want to explore Iceland and the Nordic countries. I got to go briefly to Finland, but I need more time around fjords.

What is something you cherish for its sentimental value?

Lexi: The only thing I wanted of my dad’s after he died was his Yankees cap. He wore that thing for at least thirty years, I swear. Many of the pics I’ve got of me and my dad include that Yankees cap. Baseball was the language of my father’s love. He would take my brother and I to old Arlington Stadium and we would watch Rangers games, but his love was always with the Yankees. He grew up listening to them on the radio. In my teenaged rebellion I started following the Red Sox. Yep. Nearly killed my dad. Anyway, after he died, I started taking his Yankees cap with me when I travel and in that way, my dad is there with me to see the world. And yes, I was wearing it when I finally got to Yankees stadium a few years back. The Yankees played the Rangers and the Rangers trounced them. And I could feel my dad smiling down.

What music are you listening to? Do you play it while you write?

Lexi: Right now I’m listening to the new Fall Out Boy album. I typically change what I’m listening to based on what I’m writing. I can tell you I wrote most of Thieves to Fall Out Boy and Florence and the Machine. Masters and Mercenaries was written to a whole lot of Snow Patrol. I’m working on Close Cover as I write this and when I start back on the manuscript I’ll switch to Jason Isbell, Florida Georgia Line and the Nashville Soundtrack. I have varied and eclectic musical tastes. I also love to write to movie soundtracks. My fave right now is the soundtrack to The Theory of Everything.

What's your newest release?

Lexi: Nobody Does It Better. I’m excited and sad because it marks the end of this group of Masters and Mercenaries books. Not that the series will end, but it will move to a spin off – The Forgotten about the Lost Boys. After that we’ll time jump and see where McKay-Taggart is about 7-9 years down the line. But I’ll always be attached to these first missions and the original MT team.

Last but not least, what’s YOUR Shayla Black kiss?

Lexi: Until I can’t think straight with Heath Powell.

Readers, tell me in the comments below, what is YOUR Shayla Black kiss today?
