Shayla Black’s Guest of the Month – Anissa Garcia

 Happy Saturday from Denver, Colorado!

Team Black is attending the annual Romance Writers of America convention and not missing the 107 degree temperatures back home in Texas.

Before heading out on this trip I had a chance to sit down with my good friend, author Anissa Garcia, and talk with her about love, life and all things romance. I hope you enjoy!

Name a movie you’ve seen at least five times and why it’s a favorite.

Anissa: I watch movies over and over again because I always learn something new about the story or about the way the actors tell the story. But I've seen The Sound of Music over and over because I grew up with it and it's such a beautiful story. I mean – a nun, a hot, single dad who's a Navy Captain, escaping Nazis, the gorgeous scenery, awesome music…what's NOT to love about this movie??

List five adjectives you’d use to describe yourself.

Anissa:Hopeful, Vibrant, Amiable, Insightful, Compassionate

Name one funny/quirky trait you have others may not know about.

Anissa:I act out scenes/dialogue that my characters might go through to figure out how to write it to make it sound as realistic as possible.

Caffeine of choice: tea, coffee, or soda?

Anissa: Coffee, definitely.

What does your work space look like?

Anissa: A semi-controlled mess.

Describe your ideal romantic evening.

Anissa: Hmm…Disneyland with a hottie (one of the Chris'?), with a fast pass – it has to be either in the fall or before Christmas, on a weekday when it's not super packed, seeing the fireworks, eating at one of the really nice restaurants there, and then snuggling together on the couch after.

Where is your bucket-list vacation?

Anissa: Austria (Sound of Music tour), Greece, Italy, New Zealand

What is something you cherish for its sentimental value?

Anissa: My mom's gold necklace of a dove (the Holy Spirit symbol).

Plotter or pantser and why?

Anissa: Definite plotter. I need it. I always need to know the ‘why' or purpose behind what I'm writing and where it's leading.

What music are you listening to? Do you play it while you write?

Anissa: Right now I'm listening to my 80's playlist. I don't listen to anything while writing a story, but SOMETIMES I'll listen to instrumental music.

What’s something you wish people would ask you?

Anissa: I've been thinking about this for way too long and I can't come up with a question I wish people would ask me. Maybe how I'm able to keep my faith strong after bad things happen – and my answer is through Jesus and LOTS of prayer.

What's your next release?

Anissa: I have a short story coming out in Alphas of Seduction in the fall. I'm also working on two different books – one is a women's fiction, the other is semi-autobiographical. 🙂

Last but not least, what’s YOUR Shayla Black kiss?

Anissa: Born in June – and wearing a gray shirt – SO –  Sweet and seductive with Seth Cooper.
